I have the worst inlaws - ever

I hate them, I hate them, I flippin' hate them so much OMG do I hate them. My son's baptism was this past weekend. It turned into a 3 ring circus. Like all family events. Why oh why am I surprised???? Uncle C had a fit cuz his name wasn't on the program as DS's uncle at the baptism. Says "What the hell am I doing here" loud enough for everyone to hear in church no less - I was so embarassed. Started a fight with my husband outside the church after the service. Followed shortly by FIL starting a fight with DH outside the church. WHO HAS A FULL BLOWN ARGUMENT OUTSIDE THE FRONT OF A CHURCH FOLLOWING A BAPTISIM ABOUT SUCH A TRIVIAL THING!!?!?!?!? I get the cold shoulder from MIL, FIL and SIL for the rest of the day. Uncle C refused to come to the party afterward because of the mishap. SIL was treating me like complete garbage for the rest of the day.

You know, after all this I don't even want to have a birthday party for my own son knowing that it will be the same garbage from them about something.

Just when you think you have seen them at their worst you realize that once again, you are wrong.

RE: I have the worst inlaws - ever

Ewwww. It does shock and amaze to see how people can try to ruin something like a baptism.  It boggles the mind, doesn't it?  Here's an idea regarding the party: Invite your friends and family (not too many, especially if your son is very young- they get overwhelmed if there are too many people milling around) and have a quiet, easy-going lunch (maybe a buffet or a bbq).  Have your family arrive around noon, and then have the in-laws show up around 2pm for just the cake and ice-cream part.  They'll likely be put out if they discover they weren't invited for the food, but just explain that you didn't want to overwhelm your son with too many people there all day.  Also, maybe you can sorta make up a story such as "It's my uncle's bday next week, so we figured we could tie in a little party for him as well with just our family".  Then, ask your family (ahead of time) to be VERY prompt about leaving at 3pm, and hopefully the in-laws will follow suit. If your son is young, he likely will be ready for a nap by then, so it would seem a good time to shoo everyone home.  Only 1 hour with the in-laws will probably be about right ;)

That is insane; you can't list EVERYONE on the program; who cares! The point is everyone who came is supposed to be there b/c they love your son and its a big event; there is no reason to fight.... geez sounds a little much!
I agree w/ MainGirl on the party too.... you don't want them around ALL DAY!
