The avatar issue seems to be only while using Internet Explorer. I'll have to look further into what the problem specifically is.
Correction on the avatar issue... the issue seems to be with user options. If you go into your userCP and select Edit Options, you will see a section to the right named Thread View Options. Check the ones you want applied and then hit Update Options.
That should restore the options you selected.
