Before I go and have it done, I wanted to get others opinions.  I'm about to take my wedding dress and have the train taken off of it.  It is smooth satin all the way from the waist to the floor, so it should look fine when it's done.  It's just that this is my 2nd marriage, and I feel it would not seem appropriate to have the train, not to mention it'll be about 115 degrees in the shade in December in Australia, and I'm worried I'll be incredibly hot in a long train.  What do you think?

Also, someone told me I shouldn't have a veil?? The kind I bought was the kind with a comb that goes in the back of your head, and the veil only goes to just past the shoulder blades in the back.  Do I really need to part with the veil if I don't wear it over my face?  I'd love some thoughts!

Thanks!
what does the top of the dress look like?
if the dress is busy and has sleeves i would go without the vail and let the dress domenate. if you are going sleeveless or spagettie strapes and the dress is simple like plain or delicate pearl bead work (it doesnt have lots of overwhelming bead work on it) go for the vail.
The top has these like 2-3 inch wide but thin "sleeves" that sit just off the shoulder.  The beadwork goes all along the top, but tapers at the waist and then the dress is strictly plain all the way to the floor.  The beadwork covers most of the top, but it seems to me somewhat understated. I'm more concerned with the train question than the veil....train or no?
that one is up to you what ever you will be comfortable in. you can always have a bussle (best of both worlds) train for the ceramony and bussle for the reception
im getting married in brisbane-australia on the 8th of december. my dress has a metre long train- the train isnt gonna be whats going to make me hot.
i chose to have a veil cos it can be really effectively used in photos- eg kissing behind it
